Nature of Personal Information
Personal information is defined as any information that would allow an
individual to be identified. Personal information can be an opinion,
which need not be true, or anything from which the person’s identity
could be reasonably ascertained. Common examples of personal
identifiers are name, date of birth, and physical characteristics.
Reason of Collecting Personal Information
IAUSS only collects and holds a party’s personal information to
provide services to that party. For example, IAUSS may collect your
personal information to enable you to participate in an IAUSS
promotion or to allow IAUSS to market its programs and services to
interested parties.
Method of Collecting Personal Information
IAUSS tries to collect personal information directly from you. That
collection generally occurs when you:
1) Request information from, or have dealings directly with IAUSS or
one of its host or partner universities;
2) Participate in a program or promotion conducted by IAUSS or one of
its host or partner universities;
3) Participate in a survey conducted by IAUSS or one of its host or
partner universities;
4) Access or request information from IAUSS’s website or the website
of one of its host or partner universities;
5) Inquire about potential job opportunity or partnership interest; or
6) Provide information to IAUSS’s customer service call centre.
In some circumstances however, IAUSS may also collect your personal
information from other entities covered by this policy or third
parties, but where it does so, it will ensure that it acts in strict
accordance with relevant privacy laws. IAUSS will take reasonable
steps in the circumstances (if any) to ensure that you are aware of
the purposes for which it collects your personal information.
Use of Personal Information
IAUSS uses your personal information for the purpose it was collected,
including (but not limited to):
Providing you with the IAUSS programs or services you request;
Promoting and marketing IAUSS’s current and future programs and
services (including to you);
Contacting you for potential career or partnership interest;
Informing you of upcoming events, special promotions and offers,
discounts and other matters which IAUSS considers may be of interest
to you;
Conducting research (including but not limited to client surveys)
concerning IAUSS’s current and future programs or services;
Improving the operation or navigation of IAUSS’s website.
IAUSS may also use your personal information for other purposes which
are related to those listed above and which will be made clear to you
at the time IAUSS collects that information, or for such purposes as
may be required or permitted by law.
If IAUSS uses your personal information for direct marketing purposes,
all correspondence sent to you by IAUSS will give you the opportunity
to “opt out” of receiving any further direct marketing correspondence.
If we use your personal information to send you any direct marketing
communications, you have the right to request that we provide you with
the source of that personal information. There is no fee for
requesting this information. Unless it is impracticable or
unreasonable to do so, we will provide you with the source of the
personal information.
Disclosure of Personal Information
All information collected is for the purposes of the operations of
IAUSS or where dictated by legislative guidelines. For example,
administering and managing the services provided to prospective and
current students, including admissions, enrolment, education, billing,
maintaining our information technology services, data storage,
marketing the services of IAUSS and its related entities/partners,
hiring and managing employees and contractors, providing travel advice
and evaluating and improving service provision. IAUSS may use personal
information to contact the discloser by mail, email, SMS or telephone.
IAUSS may engage other companies to provide services, who will need
access to personal information to perform the service.
Requirements for Collection and Disclosure of Personal
Information
IAUSS may be required to collect and disclose information during a
student’s admission and enrolment to an IAUSS program in order to meet
obligations under a range of legislative requirements.
Access to Personal Information
Individuals can obtain information about personal information which
IAUSS may hold about them by contacting our representatives. IAUSS
will take reasonable steps to ensure personal information is accurate,
though individuals can also contact us to request amendments to the
personal information held about them.
Requests for access to personal information must be made in writing to
us, at contact@iauss.org. IAUSS reserves the right to recover
reasonable costs associated with providing information requested.
Storage and Security of Personal Information
IAUSS takes reasonable steps to ensure personal information it holds
about you is protected from risks such as misuse, interference, loss
and unauthorised access, use, destruction, modification or disclosure.
However, no system is 100% secure and to the extent permitted by law,
IAUSS excludes any liability in contract or otherwise for any security
breach.
IAUSS takes all reasonable steps to destroy hard copies of personal
information that is no longer required, and destruction of personal
information is undertaken by secured means.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
IAUSS reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy when needed. If
IAUSS changes this Privacy Policy, it will post a copy of the updated
policy on this website and your continued use of this website or
interactions with IAUSS following that posting will constitute your
acceptance of the terms of the updated policy.
